WATERTOWN – Watertown gained a measure of revenge on Aberdeen Central Tuesday night.
After losing to the Golden Eagles on a last-second three-point field goal in Aberdeen earlier this season, the Arrows were able to finish the task in the rematch, claiming a 74-71 Eastern South Dakota Conference boys’ basketball victory.
Unlike the previous encounter in which Central owned a double-digit lead, lost it and then rallied for the win, it was Watertown that build a big first-half lead this time.
The Arrows exploded for 28 points in the opening quarter, and led by 16 after the first period. Central still trailed by double-digits at the half before putting together a 25-point quarter of its own in the third to take a 57-55 lead.
Like the first meeting, the contest hung in the balance at the end and this time the victory ended up going to Watertown. Trailing by six points down the stretch, the Arrows made two key 3-pointers and came up with a big blocked shot to help fuel a closing run to claim the win.
Dylon Rawdon scored 18 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Arrows, 10-7 on the season. Caden Beauchamp followed with 13 points, Kohen Kranz added 12, Jake Olson tossed in 11, and Marcus Rabine finished with nine.
