YANKTON – Despite having just seven contested matches, the Aberdeen Central girls’ wrestling program posted another pair of Eastern South Dakota Conference dual victories Tuesday night, defeating Yankton 42-10 and claiming a 54-12 victory over Brandon Valley as part of the Yankton Triangular.

The Golden Eagles won five of those seven matches, including all four against Brandon Valley opponents. All five wins came by fall.

“I wish we got a little more mat time, but at the end of the day a win is a win,” said Central coach Jake Flakus.

Madyson Gillen earned a 30-second pin-fall victory over her opponent in the 107-pound match in the Yankton dual, while Allison Neitzel (126), Jasmine Maas (132), Lilly Nelson (185) and Nina Howard (250) picked up pins against Brandon Valley.

Flakus said his team is getting closer to where it wants to be with every match.

“I think, when we do get that mat time, we’re closing the gap on some girls,” he said. “At our last tournament, we won some matches that we had previously lost.”

Central will head to Harrisburg for another triangular on Thursday, then will host the annual Lee Wolf Invitational Saturday at Golden Eagles Arena.

“(The girls) will be anxious and ready to wrestle,” Flakus said.
