Class B SoDak 16 Volleyball Roundup

HURON – Top-seeded Warner swept Tripp-Delmont-Armour 25-9, 25-11, 25-6 for a Class B SoDak 16 volleyball win Tuesday night. The Monarchs advance to the Class B state tournament and will face Gayville-Volin in the opening round on Thursday, Nov. 16 in Rapid City.

Kyleigh Schopp led the Monarchs with 16 kills and added three block assists, while Kyra Marcuson had 13 kills. Lauren Marcuson added 10 kills and nine digs, while MaKenna Leidholt contributed seven kills and two block assists.

Ava Nilsson finished with 41 assists, four block assists, and two aces, while Courtney Bjorgaard had 10 digs and one ace.

The Monarchs improved to 37-0 on the season.

Castlewood 25-24-25-25, Philip 10-26-19-15

HURON – Castlewood racked up 47 kills on the way to a 25-10, 24-26, 25-19, 25-15 Class B SoDak 16 victory over Philip on Tuesday night.

The Warriors were led by Presley Knecht with 24 kills. She also had 13 digs. Emerson Carter contributed 11 kills, two ace serves, a pair of solo blocks and four assisted blocks.

Gracie Haug also had two aces and led the squad with 37 set assists and 22 digs. Karli Akin finished with 13 digs.

Castlewood, 21-8 on the season, returns to the state tournament, where the Warriors will be the sixth seed. They will face third-seeded Colman-Egan in the final first-round match at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16.

Philip stats not reported

Serving: Castlewood 6 aces (Gracie Haug 2, Emerson Carter 2).

Hitting: Castlewood 47 kills (Presley Knecht 24, Carter 11, Cassidy Kirwan 6).

Setting: Castlewood 43 assists (Haug 37).

Digs: Castlewood 89 (Haug 22, Knecht 13, Karli Akin 13).

Blocks: Castlewood 7 (Carter 2 solo and 4 assists, Ella Hunter 3 assists).

Records: Philip 24-11; Castlewood 21-8.

In other Class B SoDak 16 matches involving area teams, Wolsey-Wessington punched its ticket to the state tournament with a victory, while Herreid-Selby Area came up short.

Wolsey-Wessington swept past Kadoka Area 25-19, 25-17, 25-16.

Herreid-Selby Area dropped a hard-fought four-set decision to Burke, 18-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-23.

Wolsey-Wessington will be the fifth seed in the state tournament. The Warbirds (29-4) meet fourth-seeded Burke in the first round at 12:45 p.m.
