The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has released its preseason basketball polls. Northern State was selected third in the men’s poll and tied for 10th in the women’s poll.

Minnesota Duluth received 13 of a possible 15 first-place votes and had 195 points to top the men’s poll. Minnesota State, ranked second, received the other first-place votes and had 177 points. Defending NSIC champion Northern State is third with 160 points, six more than fourth-ranked Minnesota State, Moorhead.

Duluth’s Drew Blair was chosen as the NSIC Pre-Season Player of the Year. Jacksen Moni was selected as Northern’s Player to Watch.

Minnesota State is the top-ranked team in the women’s poll. The Mavericks received all but one first-place vote on the way to 196 points. The other first-place vote went to second-ranked Minnesota-Duluth with 165 points. Mary is right behind in third with 162 points.

Northern and Wayne State tied for 10th with 87 points.

Joey Batt of Minnesota State was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year.

Rianni Fillipi was chosen as Northern’s Player to Watch this season.
