MILBANK – Aberdeen Roncalli won all six of its doubles matches and also won its share of singles as well on the way to a pair of tennis victories on Tuesday afternoon. The Cavaliers defeated Lennox 7-2 and doubled up Milbank Area 6-3.

“It was nice to get out of the AA arena and get some A matches played,” said Roncalli coach Jason Haskell, whose team plays its share of Class AA foes. “It’s always nice when the end of September feels like August without the wind. It was a beautiful day to play tennis.”

The Cavaliers opened the day with a solid triumph over Lennox. Roncalli won four of the six singles matches and swept the doubles.

Roncalli also took down Milbank in a match that would have been the same margin of difference as Lennox except for a one setback in a tiebreaker. The two teams split singles and the Cavaliers won all three doubles matches.

“We had a nice showing against Lennox, and a great win against Milbank as well,” Coach Haskell said.

Haskell pointed out the play of Katherine Kretchman at top flight singles. She split her matches on the day, which included a win over an opponent that had beaten her a few weeks ago.

“The highlight of the day for me was seeing Katherine at 1 singles simplify her game and just have some fun,” Coach Haskell said. “She settled in and earned a hard-fought win against a girl she lost to earlier in the season.”

River Haskell at flight two singles and Kiera Rivett at flight five singles won both of their singles matches in addition to a pair of wins in doubles.

Coach Haskell was pleased with his team’s performance on the day.

“It felt good to get a couple check marks in the win column” he said.

Roncalli heads to Watertown for a dual on Thursday and is scheduled to host Sioux Falls Christian on Saturday to close out the regular season.
