HURON – Huron scored five points in the final 30 seconds to rally for a 60-57 win over Aberdeen Central in an Eastern South Dakota Conference boys’ basketball game Friday night.
Central took a 57-55 lead with 59 seconds left on a Spencer Barr basket. However, Huron reclaimed the lead, 58-57, with 30 seconds left on a Mason Davis 3-pointer, his only basket of the night. Reilyn Zavesky made a pair of free-throws with seven seconds left to seal the win for the Tigers.
Zavesky finished with a game-high 25 points and eight rebounds, and proved to be a handful for the Golden Eagles all night.
“(Zavesky) is a tough matchup,” said Central coach Brent Norberg. “A left-handed kid, he really drives hard, shot fakes, and pump fakes, and can make shots, too. He just made some plays.”
Despite the loss, Norberg said his team was competitive, and was proud of the way the Golden Eagles fought.
“I thought we played hard, I thought we competed,” Norberg said. “The guys didn’t get frustrated. They kept competing and playing hard. We got down a couple of times, and came back and took the lead and had a chance to win at the end, and we just weren’t able to make enough plays.”
