Central falls to O’Gorman in straight sets

SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central found itself in an uphill battle against O’Gorman Monday night.

The Golden Eagles were swept 25-11, 25-12, 25-19 in the non-conference volleyball match.

Central had a tough time getting into system and just as much trouble keeping the Knights out of system.

“We didn’t serve receive well at all. We got aced 13 times,” said Central coach Jackie Bindenagel.

Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles managed to ace O’Gorman just once.

“We didn’t serve aggressive,” Bindenagel said.

Central finished the match with 17 kills, led by Grace Kuch with seven. Ashley Wangler had one of her top performances of the season with five kills and also a solo block.

“Ashley Wangler did do a nice job over there,” Bindenagel said. “We made some lineup changes and the kids adjusted well.”

Sydney Evans led the Central defense with 22 digs.

The Golden Eagles, 5-6 on the season, play host to Brandon Valley in an Eastern South Dakota Conference match at 7 p.m. Thursday at Golden Eagles Arena.

Serving: Aberdeen Central 36-40 1 ace (Madison Miller 7-7 1 ace, Sydney Evans 8-9, Anna Malchow 7-7, Sawyer Bahr 7-9).

Hitting: Aberdeen Central 77-99 17 kills (Grace Kuch 20-26 7 kills, Ashley Wangler 16-19 5 kills, Taryn Nieman 5-8 3 kills).

Setting: Aberdeen Central 56-57 16 assists (Arylie Waldo 52-52 15 assists).

Digs: Aberdeen Central 46 (Evans 22, Malchow 8, Miller 6).

Blocks: Aberdeen Central 2 solo (Madi Aldridge 1, Wangler 1).

Records: Aberdeen Central 5-6.
