BROOKINGS – The Aberdeen Central girls’ soccer program remained unbeaten on the season after a 7-0 blanking of Brookings Saturday in Brookings.
The Golden Eagles are now 3-0-1 overall. Brookings is 1-3 on the season.
Central coach Merle Aske was pleased with what he saw from his team bouncing back from a late draw with Sioux Falls Jefferson on Tuesday.
“We had a few players out, but the girls did a good job of controlling the pace of the game,” Aske said. “We did a good job of finding feet and getting the ball in behind (the defense), and when we did that, we did a good job of finishing.”
Lauren Joosten had two goals, both in the first half, while Deshani Peters had two second half goals and an assist in the game. Makylie Miller, Kylie Stewart and Eliana Aberle came up with scores, as well.
Despite the lopsided score, Aske said Brookings was not without opportunities in the game.
“Our defense did a good job of shutting (opportunities) down,” he said. “Taylor Thorstenson came up big in goal a few times.”
Overall, Aske said, the Golden Eagles did what they needed to do on the field.
“Everybody who went in did a good job of going out and taking care of business,” he said.
Central will have one day of preparation before taking the pitch again for another Eastern South Dakota Conference road game, this time against Pierre on Tuesday.
