While our leaves are not even close to changing colors, and the calendar still says July, we are about to experience a change of seasons in the local sports world.

Some schools have already had their “fall” sports meetings and practices for sports like soccer and girls’ tennis will officially start on Monday. In fact, we are less than two weeks away from the first regular-season competition for tennis.

For sure, there are still a few days remaining for summer sports, but they are fast coming to an end. This weekend will feature state tournaments for baseball, while swim teams had their state meet last weekend.

Auto Racing has two regular shows remaining before taking a two-week hiatus for the Brown County Fair. When action resumes, track championships will be the next show up. Luckily for race fans, there are specials scheduled through the end of September.

So, enjoy the final days of summer activities as Aberdeen gets set to host the opening round of the State A Amateur Baseball Tournament at Fossum Field next weekend (Circus Sports Bar was rated second in the final Class A poll of the season). The Hub City will also host the State BMX championships at the end of August.

Before you know it, school will be starting and those leaves will begin to start changing.

In just a matter of a few short weeks, the air will be filled with footballs, soccer balls and volleyballs. And when we get the opportunity to watch some true fall sports take place while it still feels like summer, then so much the better.
