Cavaliers grab doubles spots, fall to Rapid City Christian

RAPID CITY – Aberdeen Roncalli continued play in the Rapid City Invitational on Friday, grabbing spots in the doubles tournament before being blanked 9-0 by Class A powerhouse Rapid City Christian.

Each of the Roncalli doubles teams recorded one victory during the doubles portion of the tourney.

The top flight team of Daniel Gamboa and Mason Carrels capped their play with a victory over a squad from St. Thomas More to finish seventh.

The flight two doubles tandem of Cason Hellwig and Palmer Johnson also won their final match to conclude the tourney, with a dominating performance of another STM squad to take seventh as well.

Roncalli’s third flight doubles squad of Landon Zikmund and Gannon May dropped a decision to Aberdeen Central’s Sekou Gogue and Michael Frohling in the fifth place match.

The Cavaliers then squared off against Rapid City Christian where the closest matches took place in doubles. Roncalli dropped 10-5 decisions at flight one and flight three.

The Cavaliers will wrap up action with two more duals in Rapid City today before returning home for back-to-back matches. Roncalli will face Aberdeen Central at 4 p.m. Monday before hosting Watertown on Tuesday.
