Braun finishes second, Roehrich third, Pugh fifth at Junior event

MITCHELL – The area was well represented atop the Girls’ 16-18 leaderboard at the South Dakota Golf Association Junior Tour Championship at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell on Wednesday.

Class AA state champion Olivia Braun of Aberdeen finished runner-up with a 54-hole total of 225, one stroke better than Watertown’s Brynn Roehrich, who won the Class B state title while golfing for Clark-Willow Lake. Both girls shot a final best round of 73.

Miller’s Jayce Pugh finished third among the field with a three-day total of 231.

Rylan Horning of Rapid City, who won the Class A state championship while golfing for St. Thomas More, won the tournament with a 54-hole total of 222. Watertown’s Gabi Olson, who recently set a state record for a nine-hole total of 28 during a summer tour event, finished fourth with a 228.

Charlie Swift of Harrisburg won the Boys’ 16-18 championship with a 203. Asher Dannening of Mitchell was runner-up with a 205, the same total as Jayden Antonen of Sioux Falls in third.

Parker Reede of Spearfish was fourth with a 54-hole total of 208, one stroke better than Matt DeBeer of Dakota Dunes in fifth.

There were numerous area boys in the field. That group was led by Harper Schnabel of Aberdeen who finished 14th with a total of 215.
