Area golfers record top-10 finishes at Sanford championship

SIOUX FALLS – A group of area golfers earned spots among the 10 top finishers during the South Dakota Golf Association Sanford Golf Series Championship at The Country Club of Sioux Falls on Monday.

In the girls’ division, Miller’s Jayce Pugh, and Watertown’s Brynn Roehrich, who golfs for Clark-Willow Lake, both tied for sixth place after rounds of 78. Aberdeen’s Olivia Braun also shot a 78 and finished ninth.

Gabi Olson of Watertown won the event on a fourth playoff hole after a round of 71. Katie Betsworth of Dakota Dunes, was second and Rylan Horning of Rapid City was third, also with scores of 71.

Onida’s Gavin Colson was ninth in the boys’ division with a 74. Jonathan DeBoer of Twin Brooks was 12th with a 75, and Harper Schnabel of Aberdeen was 26th with an 83.

Watertown’s Ty Lenards won the event with a 70, one stroke better than three other golfers. Carter Langle of Elk Point was second, Matt DeBoer of Dakota Dunes was third, and Nick Bothun of Pierre was fourth.
