BROOKINGS – The Renner Monarchs scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to rally past Aberdeen Circus Sports Bar 7-6 during the State A Amateur Baseball Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

It was Circus that staged the first rally.

Aberdeen trailed 4-1 heading into the fifth inning when it scored runs on back-to-back wild pitches before Casey Vining delivered a two-run single to put Circus in front.

Aberdeen added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh on Vining’s triple. However, Renner wasn’t quite finished as Dave Borchardt came up with a one-out bases-loaded double to put the Monarchs in front. Circus had the tying run on in the bottom of the ninth, but was unable to level the score.

Vining, a pickup player from the Aberdeen Smittys, finished with three hits and knocked in three runs. Jesse Babcock had a pair of hits.

Circus advances to play the Yankton Tappers at 1 p.m. on Friday in Mitchell.
