Boerger powers Milbank to State A baseball win

MITCHELL – Dom Boerger struck out 15 batters and walked just two in nine innings of work as the Milbank Firechiefs defeated the Hartford-Humboldt Gamecocks 5-2 during the State B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Boerger took a shut out in the eighth inning before the Gamecocks scored two late runs.

Milbank scored single runs in the first, third, fourth, fifth, and eighth innings during the contest.

Brady Krause had an RBI single in the first, and a sacrifice fly in the third. Kellen Hoeke had a run-scoring single in the fourth, Brent Griffith added a sac fly in the fifth, and Taylor Boerger capped Milbank’s scoring with an RBI single in the eighth.

Merik Junker had three hits to lead the Firechiefs, while Mitch Quade, Krause, and Griffith each finished with two.

Milbank takes on Dell Rapids PBR in the next round at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
